SparkGen at KUHS: Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators
Kathmandu University High School
IEEE Kathmandu University launched SparkGen — Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators — with its first session at Kathmandu University High School on September 3, 2026.
The session brought together around 30 students from Grades 9–12 for an interactive introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, focusing on how machines learn from data and make predictions.
Students explored AI through real-world examples, followed by a hands-on Linear Regression experiment that introduced predictions, error, Mean Squared Error (MSE), and model improvement.
The session also introduced underfitting, overfitting, and gradient descent, connecting mathematical concepts such as equations, graphs, error, and optimization with real-world Machine Learning.
Rather than being a conventional lecture, the session encouraged students to explore, experiment, and understand AI by doing. It was designed to help students see how the mathematics they learn in the classroom becomes the foundation for technologies shaping the world around them.
The KUHS session marks the beginning of SparkGen's broader school outreach journey — an initiative by IEEE Kathmandu University to bring emerging technologies closer to young minds and inspire students to move from being technology users to becoming technology creators.
Spark curiosity. Explore technology. Build the future.
